Let me start off by writing that this post, part 2 of the Twilight Event, was almost never going to see the light of day and be buried somewhere deep in my storage hard drive. If you read my previous part 1 then you know it was really, and i mean REALLY, dark once the sunlight faded away, and the flood lights available at the track, or the lack of, really didn't do much other than light up a tiny spot of the tarmac.
Some of the fastest and dare i say it, ballsiest, drivers came out to play during the August 19, 2017, Vtec Club USA round 5 Twilight event, and it was definitely another night event for the books. Starting at 4 pm sharp, advanced drivers all the way down to the beginner class began putting down their hot laps before the sunlight would completely vanish under the desert sky.
I believe i'm at least a full month behind with this set, but i finally found some downtime to finish these bad boys, and i guess it's better late than never. I'm i right?
It is Sunday, March 26th in beautiful Rosamond California, and the official kickoff day for Vtec Club USA’s 2017 season. The all-Honda time attack event that is known to bring FUN track days wherever they go, and trust me, they always deliver the FUN. As a Vtec Club participant for nearly a full year, and the newly appointed photographer for the 2017 season, I can thoughtfully say that there is no other event like this one. With a completely sold out round one, the air was filled with excitement and the feeling of an inevitable good-time was something no one could help but feel.
March 26th marked the start of the 2017 season of VTEC Club, almost four months of off-season had passed since the final round of the 2016 season held on December 3rd 2016 at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. The paddock was packed to the brim at the Streets course of Willow Springs International Raceway, Hondas of all generations and models were well represented – to the tune of 99 entries. Ninety-nine competitors, all Hondas, battled it out for the top spots in each class. It became apparent that many competitors had made the most of the downtime between seasons to revamp their cars for this year, of the five classes – two had their records rewritten by the end of the day. Not only were the times faster, the aesthetic presentation of many cars were also notably improved, several cars were freshly painted, some competitors had new wheels and we even spotted a new livery or two. Though these factors may not translate into faster times, spectators and drivers alike were visibly excited to see the result of what the competition had been up to during the off season.
Honestly, who wouldn't love watching a pack of extra small "mini-vans" ripping it out on a time attack battle! When i got invited to an event named "Fit and Friends" and realized it was basically a group of Honda Fit driver's out racing, i was all over it, and boy i'm glad i attended. let's say it was a private event, although it was really an open track day hosted by Extreme Speed, because it sounds more exclusive and official. However, it's a group effort between friend's that wanted to race together with their Fits, and in my opinion, it was a huge success.
