If you're a Honda enthusiast, or an all-around motorsports enthusiast, then you know about Spoon Sports and the legend behind its legacy, Mr. Ichishima-san! His unique vision and unrivaled presence in the Honda and racing community is unparalleled, and when i heard he would be visiting from Japan to the United States, i had to take the opportunity to meet and see the legend for myself. Luckily, he was in attendance for this years Global Time Attack Super Lap Battle at Buttonwillow Raceway in California, and i attended both days for the event! I believe this is "killing two birds with one stone" or whatever LOL.
This short photo blog post is not really about Ichishima-san though, but more about the incredible Spoon Sports time attack Type-R. Which by the way, in case you weren't aware, is now fitted as CENTER DRIVE. When the news broke out about the change, it was all the hype at the time. I still think it is! A one of a kind center drive Type-R?! Where can i sign up for one!
It was pretty cool to see the car in-person on its hunting grounds with the crew, fans, and other photographers. Of course Joey (Stickydiljoe) was in attendance! I can't wait to see his blog/vlog on more Spoon coverage for The Chronicles.
On a side note. I get a little envious when i see some nice photography and videography gear by both professionals and hobbyists. Makes me want to drop a few bucks on some sweet new lens and a better [camera] body. Then i realize; car parts and delicious food is the priority right now lol. Maybe one day i'll have my dream [camera] body with the Nikon "Holy Trinity" line-up paired with a few specialized glasses on the side. Plus my primes, because i love primes.
The battle hardened Type-R was once again piloted by the beast machine himself, Dai Yoshihara. If you're not too familiar with Dai then here's a really quick summary; Beast in drift, road race, and stunt driving (insert thumbs up emoji here lol).
Unfortunately, Dai and the Spoon team weren't able to take home another victory, or break their own record. The good news, they still showed excellent performance and the car, crew, and fans are one of the best in motorsports.
Can't wait to see what happens next year. Maybe the brand new Type-R chassis, stripped, modded, and center drived...
